Candidate Spotlight: Betsy Monroe

Working in the Pittsburgh area, Betsy Monroe spent 10 years making health insurance more affordable for about 100,000 older Pennsylvanians. One of Betsy’s priorities as a candidate is fighting for healthcare access for everyone. Believing that whether and where a person works should not determine their ability to receive adequate care, Betsy wants employers out of the way when it comes to workers coverage. Therefore, she wants to work hard to safeguard and bolster affordable health care. Given her experience, Betsy can help generate solutions on this issue.

In addition, Betsy wants to protect PA’s air and water and tackle the overdose epidemic with treatment, not incarceration. Her other objectives include the elimination of gerrymandering and voter suppression.

Betsy is married and a mother of three teenagers. She has been the PTO treasurer for her children’s schools, led a Girl Scout troop, and was the Assistant Scoutmaster with the local Boy Scout troop. Participating in the 2017 Women’s March on Washington was a turning point for her, inspiring a new degree of determination to end politics as usual.

“For too long, legislators in Harrisburg have ignored the challenges facing working families like mine. I will be a voice for our region’s working families.”
